Straw Bale House

Using modern sustainable building methods and natural materials, the team developed and build a prototype house to showcase best practice and encourage others to adopt some or all the techiques in their design-build projects. We used innovation concrete reduction methods in the flooring, locally built timber double-glazed windows and untreated macrocarpa timber for the strucural components.

Residential Renewables

As part of the Straw Bale house project we researched and developed a comprehensive review of the pros and cons of renewal energy options in NZ. This is set to the backdrop of NZ's world leading renewal energy based national grid.

We reviewed solar, wind, micro-hydro and more and assessed the options for cost, practically and carbon impact.
